We're a group of LA-area journalists who are fed up with the rich and powerful controlling our livelihoods and information networks. So we're building a news outlet that can never be bought or influenced by the ruling class.

Abraham Márquez is a Chicano journalist from Inglewood. He's reported from the U.S./Mexico border, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, covering various topics, including immigration, international law, and presidential elections. His writings and commentary have appeared on TeleSurTV, PRESS TV, Al Jazeera Arabic, palabra, LA Taco, and others. He's also an LA correspondent for the Bolivia-based Kawsachun News outlet.

Ayah Shiadah is a grassroots organizer and cultural worker with over 10 years of experience. Using photography, art and, digital organizing to build political education on and offline about the prison-industrial complex, militarized borders, and state violence.

Ben Camacho is an award-winning investigative journalist and documentary photographer. His work focuses on state-sanctioned violence and the communities impacted by it. He was sued twice by the City of Los Angeles in a failed effort to censor public records. He is an organizer at IWW's Freelance Journalists Union. He has spoken at Yale, USC, and other institutions about press freedom. He enjoys street photography, shows, and breathing clean air.

Erin Foley has 15 years of experience working with local nonprofits, including co-founding FORTHE, Long Beach’s first and longest-running worker-owned media outlet. At FORTHE, Erin was an editor and contributed coverage on local topics ranging from independent music releases to the ongoing fight to protect the sacred land of Puvungna. At The Southlander, Erin focuses on fundraising and the sustainability of this next-level regional newsroom.

Kevin Flores has been an investigative journalist for over a decade, focusing on tracking money, power, and influence at the local level. He previously co-founded FORTHE, Long Beach's first worker-owned media outlet, and directed “Our Home Too,” a series of documentary shorts about the city’s housing crisis. He holds a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University and is a recipient of the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism.

Morgan Keith is a journalist and professor at Los Angeles Pierce College. She has covered politics, homelessness, and breaking news for outlets across the United States, including the Beverly Press, PolitiFact, and Business Insider. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri, where she earned a degree in data journalism.
